Every now and again, I revisit some really old cartoons I’ve done and redo or “remaster” them. This one is so old that I could only find the inks for it and quite frankly I couldn’t be bothered digging around to find the final coloured version, that and it’s really old and looks like crap anyway. Now the original which was only one panel had a picture of a guy sitting on a couch with his hand on his head looking upset. Around him were a bunch of large anthropomorphic (man I love that word) crabs watching TV, going through the fridge and one lying on the ground smoking. To tell the joke, like I did quite a lot back then, I used the caption under the panel that said something alone the lines of “Phil came back from his overseas holiday with crabs he couldn’t get rid of” or something like that, I don’t remember. OK, I wasn’t going to show it, but here it is in all it’s glory:
Now, just remember that this was from about 20 years ago, I’ve definitely improved a bit since then. I still have a pile of other’s I want to update at some point, it’s nice to see how much you’ve improved over the years. Remember the other week how I talked about in the old days how I always condensed my jokes into one panel? This is a perfect example of that. Where as now I just used as many panels as I want, back then I just did one panel and basically told the joke in a caption at the bottom. I also refined the joke a bit in the new one by adding in the shaving bit, but it’s still essentially the same joke. As you can see I did keep a lot of the same visual elements in there as well; like the guy is on a couch, as is another crab holding a remote watching TV, there’s another one going through the fridge (although in the new on you don’t see it) and there’s some crab eyes at the bottom.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, see you next time!
